The TV shows, movies, and many other programs, which were aired on HBO, were limited to some satellite and cable subscribers only. The satellite subscribers used to rely on the HBO GO app to access these programs until now, however, they will no longer have to look for alternate services to watch HBO programs.
HBO and AT&T have entered into a multi-year agreement recently. According to this agreement, HBO’s award-winning TV shows and other content will continue to air in all AT&T products. Thus, AT&T subscribers all over the country can now easily access HBO programs through their satellite TV connection.
HBO also renewed their existing contract with U-Verse and AT&T DirecTV through this deal. Furthermore, the new streaming service from AT&T will be available to the customers by the end of this year. In addition to HBO programs, subscribers will also receive CINEMAX contents through this streaming service. However, the companies have not yet revealed the financial details and other information about the agreement.
Dan York, Chief Content Officer for AT&T said, “Our agreement with HBO is groundbreaking in the pay TV and wireless industries as well as the premium category. With this agreement, we have created easy access to subscribe and consume HBO’s premium content across all of our platforms. We look forward to growing HBO and Max subscribers. This is a first-of-its-kind deal for both companies and a big win for consumers, building off AT&T’s industry leading scale as an HBO distributor for the benefit of our wireless, broadband, and entertainment customer base.”
Simon Sutton, President, Global Distribution, HBO said, “We are thrilled to extend and deepen our valued and long-standing relationship with AT&T by announcing this groundbreaking agreement. This deal will deliver the best in TV programming to viewers across AT&T’s multi-platform experience. The entertainment landscape has evolved and we are excited to innovate on both AT&T’s traditional and new platforms to further provide premium quality, extraordinary value and accessibility to viewers anywhere.”
The most popular and Emmy-nominated HBO TV series such as “Veep” and “Game of Thrones” will be available to the DirecTV packages as a part of AT&T mobile video bundle offer. This agreement has further allowed U-Verse and DirecTV subscribers to continue accessing HBO and CINEMAX channels. The subscribers can access these channel either online, on their TV, or using the DirecTV Everywhere app.
