Charter® is entering original programming with an order to executive produce a series titled LA’s Finest, which is a spinoff of “Bad Boys” duology. The first episode of the drama produced by Sony Pictures Television, and co-produced by American producer Jerry Bruckheimer, is the first of its kind to be greenlit by Charter Communications®. The fastest internet provider cum cable operator recruited Katherine Pope earlier this year to lead Spectrum’s original content plans, and it seems as if their plans have started to yield positive results.

“Charter® is excited to partner with top producers Sony, Bruckheimer and the rest of the incredible team behind and in front of the camera on our first Spectrum® Original Content endeavor,” said Katherine Pope, the Senior Vice President cum Head of Original Content at Charter®. “Our content partnerships offer us a great opportunity to provide Spectrum® customers with the dynamic, authentic and unique programming that drives value for their Spectrum® subscription.”

For an uninitiated, Bad Boys II is a buddy cop film directed by Michael Bay and starring an A-list ensemble cast, which includes Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, and Gabrielle Union. In the Bad Boys duology spinoff, Gabrielle Union reprises her role of DEA agent named Syd Burnett. Yet this time, she relocates to LA from Miami only to find a partner in Jessica Alba’s working mom and fellow detective, Nancy McKenna.

Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis penned the first episode of the series based on Bad Boys and will co-produce it whilst serving as showrunners alongside co-showrunner, Pam Veasey. Gabrielle Union, Jessica Alba, Jerry Bruckheimer, Doug Belgrad, KristieAnne Reed, Jonathan Littman, Jeff Morrone, and Jeff Gaspin are also executive producers of LA Finest. While Bruckheimer is one of the producers of Bad Boys, Littman and Reed work at Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

“Charter® has a strong passion for the project and we could not be more excited. Immediately we knew this innovative new platform was absolutely the right home for L.A.’s Finest,” said Sony Pictures Television Studio’s President, Jeff Frost. Charter® is reportedly going to premier the subsequent episodes of the pilot drama on a Spectrum® cable network next year. This series order, which Charter® got from Sony Pictures Television after negotiations with the studio, is sure to bump up their customer base.
