We know that not all of our students are lucky enough to go home and make use of Internet services. In words of Dr. Gordon Floyd, Superintendent of Fort Smith Public Schools, “Having access to the internet is really important and families who don’t have access at home, find themselves at a disadvantage.” However, Cox internet has drafted a program now to ensure that all kids get better learning opportunities at their home.
Cox Communications is planning to put forward a discounted rate of their internet plans for those households that qualify for the offer. According to Cox representatives, families that have school going children who get free or discounted lunches at school, or families that get housing assistance, are eligible to apply for the program.
Dr. Floyd said that the direction of education these days is different and that students are making use of internet and computers to understand their subject well. When teachers give homework and assignments online, students without Internet facilities in home find it much difficult and these students will get behind in studies.
“A program like this one that Cox offers is a real boon for those families, and allows them to stay in the mainstream of the internet age,” Dr. Floyd added. Teachers also believe that the ‘Connect 2 Compete’ program by Cox will be a great help to many students.
“I think it will be good for kids,” a parent said. “I wish more parents could do things and be able to get internet for their children and be able to help them with their homework and things.”
Cox Communications has started a website that would help you find if your family qualifies for the program. Another best thing is that if your family qualifies for the program, you do not have to pay for installation or modem rental, as the installation will be done free of cost.
