AT&T has recently announced that they have launched high-speed fiber internet service in the greater Birmingham area, Alabama. Moreover, reports say that they are also planning to expand the high-speed fiber internet services to neighboring communities like Hoover and Alabaster.

As per the announcement from AT&T, residents and small business owners of Birmingham can sign up and make use of the 1-gigabit internet connection. Parts of Montevallo, Chelsea, Pelham, and neighboring communities can also access the high-speed connection.

AT&T claims that the 1-gigabit high-speed fiber internet connection is about 20 times faster than the average speed that is offered by wired internet services. Officials stated that the prices for the connection will start around 70 dollars a month.

Fiber internet or high-speed internet can be a big boon for high-tech businesses in the area that has lot of servers and data needs. AT&T has launched the high-speed internet service in Madison and Huntsville last month and it is a big success. However, AT&T is not the only telecom company that is eyeing the growing fiber optic market in the United States.

AT&T plans to connect, apartments, small businesses, and homes in 11 new metros to their 1 Gigabit internet connection. This expansion is part of the newly made AT&T Fiber umbrella brand, under which, they plan to bring their Ultra Fast internet service to at least 67 metros. Reports say that AT&T is targeting to serve at least 45 metros by the end of the year.

The Ultra Fast internet service is already launched in areas of 29 of the largest metro areas in the country. This service is marketed to more than three million locations now, out of which, over 500,000 accounts to condominiums and apartments. It is believed that AT&T is on track to exceed their target of 12.5 million locations planned by 2019.

Cox Communications has made it possible to use mobile health checkups, cleaning, cooking, video conference, live podcasting, and video games simultaneously on the same internet source. This is possible with the G1GABLAST service by Cox, which is actually a part of the Cox Smart Home services.

Cox Communications had earlier put the Cox Smart Home for display at Esencia in Rancho Mission Viejo in a model home. Esencia is Orange County’s first master-planned residential community wired with fiber-optic technology. Cox Communications claims that their internet service at Esencia will be hundred times faster than the normal internet service we receive today. They also added that their subscribers would be able to download almost 1000 photos or a high definition movie in about a minute.

In a latest release, Cox Communications stated, “Today’s average household connects six devices to the internet, from laptops and tablets to gaming and smartphones. That number is expected to increase to 50 devices by the year 2022.”

Cox representatives also demonstrated their latest internet service by enlisting podcasters, professional gamers, video bloggers, and many other professionals. Cox Communications simultaneously operated 30 different devices on the same internet source and the demonstration event was a huge success for the major company.
