Comcast® Cable, a major subsidiary of Comcast Corporation®, has announced a new collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This will enable Amazon Web Services to become the preferred cloud provider of Comcast® that will further promote a strategic relationship between the two companies. According to the announcement, Comcast® will rely on the facilities offered by Amazon Web Services for all its future applications. The cable provider is planning to use the cloud facilities for developing many of its latest products.

Comcast® Cable has been increasingly focusing on developing its X1 Voice Remote technology centered on cloud services. This will have numerous applications rather than for the pay TV such as in the xFi Wi-Fi management tools of Comcast® and its home automation services. Comcast® and Amazon have been working in close collaboration for years on for the development of its services such as the Xfinity X1. The new announcement has stated Comcast’s intention to widen the efficiency of all its key businesses and services.

Jan Hofmeyr, chief network and operations officer and senior VP at Comcast® Cable said, “We have deepened our strategic relationship with AWS, making the industry’s leading cloud our preferred public cloud provider. Over the years, we have leveraged the breadth and depth of AWS’s services, including compute, storage, and analytics. In that process, we’ve found AWS to be extremely customer focused.” Besides its X1 platform and xFi, numerous other Comcast’s services, such as its cable division and NBCUniversal, are also using the cloud services provided by Amazon.

Mike Clayville, VP of worldwide commercial sales at AWS said, “For industry leaders like Comcast® Cable, the quest to anticipate and exceed consumers’ media and entertainment needs is never-ending. Comcast® Cable’s goal has always been to stay a step ahead of the competition. In order to do that, they wanted solutions that were agile, flexible and ready for what’s next. Together, AWS and Comcast® Cable collaborated to enable them to confidently move core business workloads, build new applications with ease, and gain the agility they required by using AWS.”

Comcast® by using the cloud services of Amazon is proposing to leverage these facilities for preventing and bypassing the cord-cutting trend. The adoption of the cloud services hosted by Amazon will help Comcast® immensely in avoiding a huge loss of subscriber thus minimizing the risk for their business. Comcast® is intending to offer a range of value-added services along with the pay-TV service by using the cloud networks of AWS.
