AT&T’s DirecTV® will offer coverage of the Masters Golf Tournament 2018 in 4K HDR to its subscribers. It is the first time that DirecTV® is pitching for offering live coverage of this sporting event in this new advanced format. As a part of this, DirecTV® will collaborate with CBS Sports to deliver the tournament to the homes of subscribers in stunning 4K HDR format. The coverage will extend from Amen Corner of the Augusta National Golf Club including its Holes 11, 12 13, 15, and 16.

DirecTV® will provide an extended coverage of the tournament in both channels 105 and 106 for a runtime of 50 hours. This 4K HDR coverage is the first for DirecTV® from the Augusta National Golf Club. It is the third venture by DirecTV® to offer sports and other events in 4K HDR format to its subscribers. Previously, DirecTV® was the first cable provider to deliver live sports in the 4K HDR format.

It had delivered 4K HDR coverage of the NHL game between Penguins and Golden Knights. Golf was also live broadcasted in 4K HDR by collaborating with CBS at the AT&T® Pebble Beach Pro-Am, professional golf tournament located at Pebble Beach, California. According to DirecTV®, the 4K HDR live broadcasts from the Augusta National Golf Club will commence on April 5 and 6. The same day will also include a live coverage from the Amen Corner from 10:00 am to 06:00 pm on the Channel 105.

Coverage of the Holes 15 and 16 will take place from 11:00 am to 06:45 pm on Channel 106 of DirecTV®. DirecTV® is also offering weekend coverage of the event on April 7. Coverage from the Amen Corner will take place on April 8, Sunday, on the Channel 105, and Channel 106 will cover the Holes 15 and 16 that will begin from 12:45 pm to 06:30 pm. Both DirecTV® and CBS Sports have carried out several experiments the previous year to include HDR into its 4K coverage.

This was not fully successful as the content was only available in limited viewing areas at the Augusta club. The 4K HDR coverage of the Masters Golf Tournament is the newest effort by DirecTV® in offering this advanced viewing format to the subscribers across its footprint. It has proven successful in its 4K content offering as it contains three fully dedicated 4K channels. DirecTV® is looking forward to delivering more such 4K HDR sports programming after the Masters tournament.
